Mina and Katusha is the brainchild of two Melbourne girls, Katya Baxter and Sarina Zammit, who are proving themselves to be the queens of enigmatic elegance from dawn to dusk creating reversible dresses and versatile basics amongst other quirky garments, which change from season to season.

This young label is certainly one to watch, they are in tune with women’s constant pursuit of elegance as well as the relaxed look of the Australian summer lifestyle. Their designs encapsulate an intelligence, which makes them suitable for day and night. Mina and Katusha have taken everything into account from the simplistic cuts, which can be easily layered to the need for clothing to provide comfort.

The girls draw inspiration from their daily lives, so it is no wonder their garments are so wearable. Blacks and whites create strong silhouettes in their cotton jerseys and voiles with cobalt blues and nautical stripes featuring strongly this summer. They have also incorporated more refined dresses that are perfect for the Spring Racing season.

Melbournian Amanda McCarthy returned to Melbourne after time spent working as a stylist and buyer in London with a feeling that something was missing in Australian fashion. Through launching her label, Leonard St, in 2005 while working in the wardrobe departments of Australian feature films, she aimed to subvert things a little bit. Leonard St is named after a small pocket of London’s East End, where style consists of eclectic combinations of anything as long as they are put together with flair and the label draws on that philosophy.

Amanda has been inspired by childhood memories of growing up in a family working in the rag trade. Her designs are focused on strong shape and silhouette, echoing her training in design and sculpture. Color palette and print design are also strong elements of each collection as opposed to the monochrome associated with much Melbourne-based fashion - which isn’t to say black doesn’t have its place! Each piece aims to be subtly directional, effortlessly combining wearability with a sophisticated edge and quality that can’t be overlooked!

Not subscribing to particular trends but working a timeless quality, Leonard St has created its own niche in this clothing-mad city with loyal customers eagerly awaiting each new collection.
